Prolonged droughts and dry conditions affected in southern Somalia especially SWS region in the past decades resulted in hundreds of IDPs, insufficient crop production in the farms as well as livestock diminish. These two aspects were the cornerstone of the problems faced by communities in this region. The community livelihood was mainly based on pastoralism, rearing and living with their livestock and few did farming. Hudur is among the areas badly affected by the drought with minimal rainfall for the past couple of years. In addition to this, many animals and people have to die due to this condition. This resulted great rural to urban migration to find better living standards, unfortunately the towns were also dependent on nearby rural areas for food and living. An emergency humanitarian support given to the community resulted some to sustain life a bit as others struggled hard to overcome the harsh climate change. The community realized the need to come and consult to establish a way to curb such fluctuating situations. Through many consultation forums, they brought to the table to establish water management strategies that will help them in future. This initiated the project of the borehole to be drilled in Hudur. In this very challenging project, the community appeals you to support them get a reliable water source for the town and the district in general to reduce the prolonged drought and dry seasons and bring a durable solution to water shortage conditions in the area.
