Waney Village Shallow Well Project
Waney is a village located 7km west of Hudur town. It is mainly inhabited by agro-pastoral people who mainly grow vegetables and rare animals. The village is the home of approximately 100-200 Households. Geographically lies along the main road that joins Hudur to Wajid town. Due to its agricultural nature, the villager’s plant vegetable that needs watering regularly for them to attain yields, sell and earn income. However, there is no permanent source of water and the villagers have to work 14 km go and back every day to get water for basic life processes let alone for agricultural purposes. “We got tired of going through such a tedious journey of collecting water every day from far place under the hot blazing sun”
Luckily the village has 13 committed water management committee (both men and woman) who are active in advocating for bringing water home. The committee members organized their fellow residents and finally came up “Waney Shallow well project” with a motto bring water home (The village). The “Shallow well project” is going to cost 37,724 USD.
SomRep and ACF granted 19,862 USD for the shallow well establishment. Waney village community raised $2876 to bring water to the villages closer and to the school. Shaqodoon mobilized south west state communities to raised funds for the crowd funding projects. Shaqodoon with project committees raised contributions from communities in Hudur and other towns in Somalia.
ACF completed the digging of waney shallow well. Thanks to SomRep partners and the EU as the donor of the crowding funding project, Waney village residents and near areas have clean and sufficient water for consumption and irrigation of their farms.
